Spring Cleaning
Making room for new growth
Paul holding Khloe’s chin at a restaurant and our exciting shoes, March 2026
The only thing that we can count on in life is change. My week home with just me and Khloe wrapped up, and Paul and Opie returned home. We embraced the familiarity of each other while learning how we had individually grown during our absence from each other. Khloe had some new patterns emerge when she was the “sole protector” of me, lots of loud barking as she was in “protect mode”. I had made more moves towards my transition back to school, re-arranging my upstairs studio to accommodate online classes, class/home work, and our upcoming annual summer nephew visit. We continue to prepare our garden for the summer, as more plants emerge and our first seeds, the poppies, start to surface. We pivot, adapting where we need to. I’ve had the past week off from teaching a lot of my yoga classes, which has allowed space to think. In my one yoga class that I taught this week, I came back to false identities.

I was getting my hair cut at the Aveda school this week, and I was conversing with my hairdresser, whom seemed younger than twenty. I was prodding about their hopes and dreams. I loved that age, one where more things felt possible. My hairdresser was talking about Paris and fashion, where my hairdresser kind of cut off their dream by saying that “fashion is too expensive". I also listened to the client next to me, seeing a different version of adulthood. She chatted away with her hairdresser, more verbose than me or my hairdresser. This person had just come back from Costa Rica and worked as a hairdresser and a chiropractor. She was about to turn 40 (her hairdresser wisely told her she looked 25), and loved raves. She shared that if she ever got married, she wanted to have a rave wedding. I sat and listened, seeing a path my life could have taken. Each decision we make along the way shapes our path, as well as each change we make.
Window in my neighborhood, March 2026
I’ve been revisiting that mysterious 18 year old self lately. My dad recently shared that in high school, with my testing, my suggested career path was in math. I wanted to be in the arts! Oh, the power of will. Now, nearly 25 years later, that dharma is about to come full circle. Yet, I’ve been asking myself if I regret the path I chose in my youth. I was able to see a different side of life and live some really fun artistic dreams. I was able to become the person I am today. I was able to grow in a creative community.
